Chair Cover Tutorial

When Ryan & I got married, like most couples, we didn’t have a lick of furniture. So we went to Ikea and got our bedroom set, dining rom table & chairs, couch, kitchen cart and computer table for like $1,300. That place is the bomb! Of course I’m now re-doing most of those pieces but they’re still awesome. These were the cushions that adorned our chairs:

Oh so hot! And that Velcro… swoon.

1. Oops! Snip, snip went those weird pesky attachments.

2. Next I cut out a newspaper pattern:

3. Sewed the fabric together:

4. Finished covers on the cushions:

5. Found some fantastic fabric snap tape at Joann’s, which was perfect for this project!

6. Sewed on the snap tape by hand since I didn’t have a foot for my sewing machine that would allow for the snaps. Plus, I wanted the thread to be hidden and needed a more delicate approach than the machine.

7. Lastly, I sewed on the new ribbon ties to secure the cushion to the chairs. This also was done by hand:

And here’s the finished product!

Next up- painting this rough lookin’ dining room set. Can’t wait to see it creamy white. 🙂

WOw! Looks great. I thing white paint will do wonders for the dining set. Thought of you yesterday as I drove past a wooden coffee table that would have looked fab with a coat of red paint! So nice to see you sewing and being crafty. Love, Mom
