First news- We’re moving next Wednesday! The movers will arrive at 8am and pack us up, ship our stuff to Great Lakes, and unpack when they arrive. Thank you Navy!
The past few days I’ve been going through every closet and nook and cranny of our our home, thinning our possessions, discarding things which have gone used or unworn for months, I started taking stock of the things we’d need in the house while waiting on our household goods to arrive. I decided that Royal Berkey would come with me in the truck and not with the movers. The reason I want him in the house immediately is this: I cannot stand the taste of water now that has not been filtered by Mr. Berkey.
Per the Berkey website: Berkey Water Filtration Systems are the ultimate in portable water contamination removal. Berkey is used worldwide and sets the international standard for water filters used in clean or hostile filtration environments to provide the best tasting, purest drinking water possible.
The Berkey is so unique and tests show that it removes viruses, pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites from water… no Brita can claim that. The filters are so purifying they actually remove food coloring from water! Our system, the Royal Berkey is a bit larger than our current family needs but instead of having to upgrade once we have little ones, I went with the larger model. When you factor in the dogs drinking needs as well, the Royal needs filling about once a week (with just me and the dogs). We currently have four filters installed in the system, two black filters and two fluoride/arsenic/lead/mercury filters.
The filtration takes a few hours so I usually fill it up right before going to bed and I always keep a jug of cold water in the fridge but the wait is worth it. You literally cannot taste ANYTHING when drinking water filtered by Berkey. It is the best water I have ever had in my entire life. Sometimes I run out of water at the gym when I’m working out and as soon as I put my face near my bottle to drink, I’m slapped with the stench of chlorine and God knows what else. It’s so comforting to know that I’m not putting any unknown pharmaceuticals in my body either as research has shown there are thousands of chemicals swirling around public water. (Top 11 Compounds Found in US Drinking Water) Side note: in both articles scientists say the medicine is in “small doses” but oddly enough, that doesn’t make me feel any more at ease. I’d rather not have ANY doses in my water. You?
And bottled is no better because you should know by now that almost all bottled water is really just portable tap water except it’s not subject to the same levels of testing that our city water is (which arguably is shit too). It doesn’t come from a lush mountain spring or osmosis and clouds or an island in Fuji. Don’t fool yourself by thinking you’re being more healthy because you buy the “good stuff”. I suggest this alternative: pay to have it filtered. And while you’re paying for it, buy the best on the market. Berkey filters lasts forever (average life span of a filter is around 8 years, depending on how much you use it) and they actually never stop working, the filters just work slower and that’s how you’ll know they need replacement.
I encourage you to read Berkey Filter’s FAQ’s here and do your research on the crap in our water and the damage fluoride is doing to us and our children. (50 Reasons to Oppose Fluoride, Toxic Chemicals in Your Water & 10 Facts About Fluoride) It is industrial waste that has been touted as “healthy additive” for decades. Check out this documentary if you do nothing else. It is fascinating and extremely frightening all at once. How do they continue to get away with poisioning our water and US??
After watching that documentary and doing a little research, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Berkey the following day. Enough is enough. You should feel the same way. Take action and responsibility for the health and safety of your family. You don’t have to rely on “someone” to protect your water and your food (a post for another day)… you can take charge on your own with this small step in the right direction.
Other than my shameless plug for Amazon affiliate links, I was not paid or compensated in any way for my reviews or extremely positive opinions in this post. I just love to share my love for really great stuff with the people in my life. There’s so much crap out there (most of it being shit, poor quality, overpriced, etc) so when I come across something I feel is worth my hard-earned money, I want to pass it along to as many people as I can. Feel the love, my friends.
